We believe that every child possesses a divine spark; is made in the Divine Image, and because of this we have a high view of humanity. This affects what we teach and how we teach. We do things differently at Journey because we have a distinct perspective of the Child. Every child is created in God’s image and ought to be taught personally, in relationship. We have high goals for each child and take the task of education seriously.
The process of education is formative, shaping a person’s body, mind and soul. Classical Education has shaped some of the world’s greatest hearts and minds–from Aristotle to Galileo to C.S Lewis. The study of classical languages provides logic and problem solving skills while reinforcing a student’s understanding of grammar and language. Reading the best authors–such as Homer, Dante, Shakespeare, and Dickens–gives students the resources they need to learn to see life as a story and acquire virtue through the wisdom of those who have shared our humanity. Through the study of mathematics and science, God’s creation and order are clearly illustrated. The chronological study of history, from the dawn of the ages to the modern day, provides the outline for the study of literature, art, and music. When blended together these elements encourage students to see their education not simply as facts to be acquired or a job skill to be gained, but rather as a lifelong pursuit of learning and becoming.
